May 11, 2021– Chevron recently partnered with the Natural History Museum of Utah (NHMU) to host the I.D.E.A. Symposium, the first event of its kind for the museum. Colleagues from more than 100 museums, arts, and cultural organizations around the country participated in the virtual Symposium focused on the topics of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (I.D.E.A.).

Refinery Manager Bryon Stock opened the Symposium with remarks about Chevron’s commitment to the values of Diversity and Inclusion, as well as sharing experiences from his personal learning journey. He was joined by NHMU Executive Director Jason Cryan and Virgil Johnson, former Tribal Chairman for the Confederated Tribe of the Goshute Reservation.

The Symposium’s keynote speaker was Space Center President & CEO William Harris, who spoke about diversity and inclusion in STEM pathways. The Space Center is a Smithsonian affiliate and leading science and space exploration learning center.

Josetta Jones, Chevron’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, participated in a “fire side chat” with NHMU staff and shared observations about growing organizational fluency on the topics of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.

Presenting speakers also included guests from the museum community and diversity-focused community organizations. In addition to speaker sessions, Symposium participants joined small-group discussions to help broaden their knowledge and ability to champion I.D.E.A. in their communities and workplaces.
